Biography:
I attended University of California for my undergraduate work.   My major was American Studies and my plan was to attend law school.  I graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors.  My life journey changed quite a bit after I realized I was not ready to spend all day in a law office, so I decided to become a raft guide instead.  I worked in outdoor education for many years in between, including leading sea kayaking expedition trips in Mexico, whitewater rafting in California, and naturalist programs on Catalina Island and the Colorado River.  Working in outdoor leadership led me to realize that I loved teaching and working with young people. I earned my Teaching Credential from Chapman University and my Master?s at Argosy in Educational Leadership.

My goal as an administrator is to inspire wonderment in students. I want them to question the world around them, think outside the box, and be open-minded about other cultures and people. I encourage my students to work collaboratively, be empathetic, and learn organizational skills. Students should be actively involved in their own learning.  I see myself as a facilitator and mentor to my competent and motivated students.

Some interesting accomplishments and information about me:

I love being active.  Along with three friends, I rode 4400 miles across the country during college.  The trip started in Anacortes, Washington and ended in Bar Harbor, Maine. This was a life changing trip, teaching me about perseverance and inner strength.  I also ran in a marathon and a ? ironman triathlon and once won my school?s spelling bee in 8th grade.

Two things that people may not know about me are that I was born in Hilo, Hawaii and my name ?Caitha? is an Egyptian word meaning ?palm of the hand.? In addition, I can roll a sea kayak and run class 4 whitewater rapids.

My family enjoys spending time at the beach, running, biking, swimming and being active in general.  I also enjoy reading great fiction and history books.

My favorite quotes are:

?An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.?  -- Gandhi

?Life is a journey, not a destination.?  -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

?Tell me, what is it your plan to do with your one wild and precious life??  --Mary Oliver

My inspirations are my family and my students. As my young family grows, I hope to be a great mother to my two sons, Noa and Maxwell.
