Apple released their newest product, the iPad, to the US general public on, April 3rd, and on the 30th a WiFi connection was added, and so far it is what they say it is: “a revolution.” Many people have been dying to get their hands on one of the sleek faux laptops, especially graphic designers. The iPad is basically an enlarged version of the Apple iPhone, except with much greater processing capabilities. The iPad also has the ability to hold pictures, books, and movies. Even though it is apparently very stylish and cool, some people are still skeptical if it is really worth $499 (at the cheapest), even with over 200,000 apps.

Before buying such an exclusive appliance, a person should read a couple of reviews and then decide if the iPad fits in with their current lifestyle. If you are a dedicated PC user and love the feel and handle of a powerful desktop processor and huge monitor, then, obviously, this is not going to be a replacement for that and that person might consider buying a real laptop. The display and design are both beautiful; “The aluminum back feels great under the finger and nothing feels cheap” says Hubert Nguyen from Ubergizmo.com (a website that is famous for in-depth reviews of new products).

The iPad features sleek and stylish design, as well as easy to use apps.

The sound, without headphones, is a bit soft and not the best quality as it was made to be used with headphones. The iPad is also is much heavier than people expect, weighing in at almost 1.7lbs. That’s almost as much as a high end PC laptop. With an easy user interface, a staple that Mac users love, and up front app display, slogans such as “even grandparents can use it!” are popping up all over the media.

With my experience playing around with the iPad, mostly at the Apple store, I have come to the conclusion that if a person does not use such an appliance in everyday life, such as a graphic designer with the new 3D blueprint-like app, then it might not be worth spending so much money on the enlarged iPhone.

Rockstar San Diego presented its newest video game, Red Dead Redemption, on May 18, after people anxiously waited for the sequel to Red Dead Revolver for over a couple months. “This stunning Wild West epic raises the bar for open world action games, and stakes its claim as one of the most engaging games this year,” as said by the GameStop review board. GameStop collaborated on a pre-order and marketing system that had many people wishing for the game before it was available; these marketing tactics built major suspense for the game. Now that it is out, it has gotten good reviews and people are still eager to buy it. When the game was out for ten days on May 28, players had already logged almost 500,000 hours of playtime. As of now, it is on sale at GameStop and Amazon.com for $59.99, however, there are markdowns available with coupons from these outlets.

Red Dead Redemption is a typical role-playing game consol video game, like Grand Theft Auto. The character John Marston, who has been betrayed in the original Red Dead game, seeks vengeance on those who wronged him, namely his ex-gang members. Usually role-playing games (i.e. games like Pokémon) are extremely popular and profitable and lots of people love to see what it was like without all the technological advancements that we have today, what better place than the Wild West.

Rockstar based the setting as a sandbox-style (a virtual space that a user can do almost anything, it is usually used by game designers) western land where players “can walk, talk, shoot, kill, run, and interact” with their surroundings. The video game Gun it is similar to this game, except you can do more and be more involved with your character. “It is a really great game! You can do anything you want. And the good thing is: it has an entertaining and [easy to follow] storyline,” says Junior Paul Hailey.

Red Dead Redemption features stunning realistic graphics. Photo courtesy of Google Images.

Junior Colton Purvin, on the other hand, says, “it has a very Grand Theft Auto feel for it, but the blood and gore are horrendous with those super realistic [graphics].” The in-game graphics are wondrously accurate (i.e. the details on the horse) and they are even more impressive when you are seeing the movement while playing the game. However, for those who are squeamish, this level of graphics also applies to the blood and gore factors. As this is an open-world game, the character can do almost anything the player wants him to do, set in the untamed west, there are such things as stagecoach massacres and roadside executions.
