Students will learn about the effects of music through town and around the world.  They will have a broader knowledge of the types of music that exist around them.

Power point presentations, work sheets group/singular projects.

Assessment

Students will be assessed through their completed worksheets, the class discussions, and their presentations to the class.

Outcomes

Students will have a broader, more knowledgeable awareness of the music that surrounds them in their everyday lives.  They will hopefully gain a more worldly view of music and it's effects.

Ukulele in the Classroom

Content

Development of music literacy through playing the ukulele.

Skills

Single note, chord strumming, singing, ear training, sight-reading, music theory, exploration of the elements of music including melody, harmony, rhythm, form, tempo, dynamics, and tone

Instructional Strategies

Duet, solo, group playing. Learning music by rote and through reading music.

Assessment

Roaming the classroom to check for proper playing.  Students are asked to play notes individually or explain to a class how notes are played.

Outcomes

Students will strengthen their ability to play and read music.  They will have experience on an instrument that they probably have not played before.
