Welcome to the Office of College Counseling!
Priory's college counseling office embraces the Benedictine value of individuality by offering support, guidance, and advice appropriate for students based on their own individual talents, abilities and passions. Priory's goal is to assist students in discovering colleges that are strong academic and social matches. Students and parents have access to a full-time, highly trained, and experienced college counselor as well as a complete range of informational resources in the college counseling office.
Ms. Betty Van Wagenen, Director of College Counseling, meets formally each year with students and parents as a group beginning in the sophomore year. In addition, students and parents are always welcome to speak individually with Ms. Van Wagenen at any time. Students meet individually and in small groups with the director several times over the next three years as they become familiar with the admissions process, narrow their choices, arrange documentation, and, finally, complete college applications. When students take an active role in their college search, accepting responsibility, seeking information, and following guidelines, this process can be positive and even enjoyable. As an advocate for each student, Ms. Van Wagenen personalizes the process in assisting each student to find and to be accepted at schools that are an appropriate academic and social match--the true definition of "good" school.
